Everyone is making content now. Reels, posters, daily posts, ads. But if you ask them “what is your strategy?”, most people have no answer. Ads and content without a strategy are like driving fast without knowing where you are going.
If you want to know how to create a digital marketing strategy, this blog is for you. I will explain it in a simple way, with no big words.
I work as a digital marketer in Kannur. I started at Tag4 handling social media for Eliteweds, and now I manage Google ads and social media campaigns at Skalee. What I write here is what I see in real work.
What is a strategy, in simple words?
Strategy means answering a few basic questions before you spend money. Who will buy from you? Why will they choose you? What do you want from this marketing? If you cannot answer these, posting more will not help.
5 simple steps to find your strategy
1. Know your customer
Do not say “everyone is my customer”. Think of one real person. Where do they live? What do they search on Google? What problem do they have? A restaurant in Kannur and a travel business in the UAE have very different customers, so their marketing is also different.
2. Find your one clear reason
Why should a customer choose you and not the shop next door? Maybe it is price, taste, speed, or a special offer. You need one clear reason.
Remember Saudi Shawaya? Their unlimited rice offer became the reason people went there. You can read that story here: Digital Marketing Strategy in Kerala: 2 Real Restaurant Examples
3. Set one goal
Do you want more calls, more walk-ins, more website visitors, or more sales? Choose one first. When I worked on the “missing burger” campaign for Ami’s Kitchen in Mattool, the idea was to get people to engage. We also got customer data that helps for future offers. The goal was clear, so the work was easy to check.
4. Pick the right place to start
You do not need to be everywhere. If people cannot find you on Google at all, fix your website and Google Business Profile first. If you want enquiries fast, ads can work faster. If you want visitors for a long time, SEO is worth the wait. Start with one and do it well.
5. Start small, then check the numbers
Do not put the full budget on day one. Run a small test, then look at the numbers. I use Google Ads, Meta Ads, and Semrush for this. See what worked, do more of it, and stop what did not work.
Mistakes to avoid
- Posting daily without knowing the goal.
- Copying what the big brands do.
- Running ads before your website or Google listing is ready.
- Looking only at likes and not at enquiries.
Quick test for your business
Write these three lines on a paper:
- My customer is ___.
- They should choose me because ___.
- After this marketing I want ___.
If you can fill all three clearly, you have the start of a strategy. If you get stuck, that is the exact place to work on first.
